Clacton, has two major haunted sites. One being Treasure Holt, and the other a house down Ellis road near the town centre.

Treasure Holt

This is a story of an old inn which dates back to the 1300's.
It was once owned by a couple who were believed to be involved in Witchcraft, they were believed to have held mass executions and rituals on the site, which today still can be seen re-enacted. The smells of the decaying bodies of the people who were murdered have also been smelt.

The couple would take visitors in for the night give them a good dinner with generous amounts of the houses' own alcohol. While their drunken guests slept they would take parts or all of their money, then throw them down a well which was on the site. This well was opened up recently and parts of bodies were found.

There are many recent cases of ghosts being spotted here, the ghosts of Uncle Percy, The Crinoline Lady, and of a Young Boy are regulary seen here.

This is a house steeped in History that is well worth a visit.

This is a report from a very strange house indeed. About 50 years ago a young boy, who lived here with his family got possesed by an evil demon and killed his mother, father and little sister with a pistol.

His mother was shot in the kitchen, his father in the dining room, and his sister, in one of the back bedrooms.

This was a terrible event and is not forgotten by the restless spirits that still haunt this very house.. Strange goings on have been reported here, Poltergeist activity in fact, in the very same room where the little girl died. She moves the owners possessions around like nobodys' business and is also known to throw objects at them.

Downstairs in the kitchen there is reported sightings of a lady slowly combing her hair and humming a tune, while there is also activity in the dining room, plates are known to be thrown there.

This is an amazing house, but I feel sorry for the current owners and hope they can live in peace. . . .

Below is a picture produced in the 1980s by a resident who had lived there.
